Why AeroVia Exists

Today, there’s no single, centralized platform for aerospace. If you want to learn about rocketry, planes, and space, courses and resources are scattered across YouTube, Wikipedia, academic papers, websites, and more. Making it difficult for everyone to navigate this vast knowledge.

I created AeroVia to solve this issue. Our goal is to become the place to be for anyone in aerospace. We aim to create a central hub for aerospace where you can do learn, connect, find jobs and more. Our courses will guide learners step-by-step to make complex topics approachable.

The Journey Behind AeroVia

My inspiration for AeroVia began when I came to the Netherlands because of my studies at TU Delft. I met Johannes Moser, who was working with his friend Michael Feßl on some courses for model rockets. I joined their efforts, but our visions for building a platform diverged. I decided to create my own platform called AeroVia.

I created the platform from scratch. In three months:

  • I built a full learning platform to share courses, resources, and more
  • I built a full behind-the-scenes interface to write the courses, manage users, and manage all the other stuff
  • Internal tools to streamline operations
  • Assembled a team of 15 people

Early days

The first few months of AeroVia, back then called DeltaV (decided not to go with that name because existing companies with that name could sue us...), was just me learning how to build a website in my bedroom. I had built a few very simple blog websites with Wordpress, but my knowledge was pretty much 0. I started working on the back-end website first. How was I going to manage writing the courses on the main website? I created a very simple interface to add and remove courses and write content inside of them. This was later expanded a lot, now this backend website controls the whole main website so we can change the content and keep it up to date.

First version of the website:

Later, I started working on the main aerovia.org website and added resources, summaries, a forum, and a blog. I worked on these websites on my own for 3 months. After that, I decided that I needed people to help me make this vision a reality, and I started interviewing and recruiting.

The Vision

AeroVia is more than a learning platform. It is a community and resource hub for anyone who wants to explore the frontiers of aerospace! The aerospace community is fragmented and spread across different continents. We want to bring it together on this platform. We are working on many new features, you can check them out at aerovia.org/roadmap.

I built this platform to solve one of my own problems, how to learn aerospace topics, but it turns out there are many more things we can solve and improve to make aerospace more accessible!
